Fred Schmidt oversees the materials-consulting function of Engineering Systems Inc. as Technical Director, Materials Engineering.

His consulting practice includes design and performance of complex engineered systems to consumer products. Dr. Schmidt has published and presented more than 50 papers on firearm design, slurry erosion, lubrication-testing methodology, tribology and others. He has served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Delaware, and has taught courses for ASM.

Fred received a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering in 1968, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science from Drexel University—this latter in 1994. In 1981, he got his P.E. in Pennsylvania.
